about

How Glass Is Made is the first installment of Raymond’s “Modern Achievements” series. It pays tribute to three entries from a 1903 encyclopedia of the same name that was discovered at Seattle’s Fremont Sunday Market.

The work combines an unconventional instrumentation with diverse improvisational and compositional approaches to sonically re-imagine the early processes of industrial glass manufacture from rough minerals to glossy form. The music transitions continually from raw and abrasive to harmonically-rich and orchestral.
